THE HEART BEHIND EMBRACING NATURE
My name is Dilia Lucero Beckwith, though most people know me as Lucero Founder of Embracing Nature
I live in a small town in South Carolina, surrounded by trees, birdsong, and the quiet rhythm of the Earth. Nature is not something separate from my life—it is a place I return to for grounding, inspiration, and healing.
My journey into holistic healing began through the body. I became a licensed massage therapist in South Carolina, knowing I needed a strong foundation to work with care, integrity, and respect. Through years of hands-on practice, I began to understand how the body holds imbalance, emotion, and memory.

A Path Rooted in Ayurveda
That curiosity eventually led me to India, where I studied Ayurveda—the ancient science of life. Since then, I’ve continued learning and practicing Ayurveda in a way that feels authentic, grounded, and woven into daily life. I don’t live Ayurveda perfectly, but I walk this path with intention, humility, and deep respect for its wisdom.

Understanding the Doshas
In Ayurveda, doshas are fundamental energies that govern how our body, mind, and emotions function. They are not diseases or labels, but natural forces of nature that exist within all of us.
Each dosha is made up of a combination of the five elements—space, air, fire, water, and earth—and these elements express themselves as specific qualities and patterns in the body and mind.
The doshas influence:
- Our physical structure and digestion
- Our energy levels and metabolism
- Our emotional tendencies and mental patterns
- How we respond to stress, climate, food, and lifestyle
Ayurveda teaches that everyone has all three doshas, but usually one or two are more dominant. When our doshas are in balance, we feel healthy, calm, and aligned. When they become imbalanced, discomfort and disease may begin to develop.
Understanding your doshic nature helps you make more intuitive choices—in food, daily routines, self-care, and lifestyle—so you can support your body in returning to its natural state of balance.
“The doshas are a way of understanding your unique constitution, not to change who you are, but to care for yourself with more awareness and compassion.”
Vata Dosha
Vata is one of the three primary doshas in Ayurveda and is composed of the elements air and ether (space). It is the energy of movement, governing breathing, circulation, the nervous system, elimination, creativity, and all forms of motion in the body and mind.
People with a dominant Vata nature are often creative, intuitive, enthusiastic, and sensitive. They tend to think quickly, adapt easily, and enjoy variety and change. When balanced, Vata expresses itself as clarity, inspiration, joy, and lightness.
Physically, Vata types often have a lighter build, with slender or thin frames, long or narrow features, and may have difficulty gaining weight. Their skin tends to be dry or cool, hair can be fine or dry, and hands and feet are often cold. Digestion may be irregular, with fluctuating appetite and energy levels.
The qualities of Vata are dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, and mobile, which means it can easily become imbalanced by stress, travel, cold weather, irregular schedules, or overstimulation. When out of balance, Vata may manifest as anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, bloating, dryness, or scattered focus.
Vata is balanced through warmth, nourishment, grounding routines, rest, and stability. Warm, cooked foods, healthy oils, gentle movement, and a steady daily rhythm help calm Vata and bring a sense of grounding, comfort, and inner peace.
Pitta Dosha
Pitta is one of the three primary doshas in Ayurveda and is composed of the elements fire and water. It is the energy of transformation, governing digestion, metabolism, body temperature, hormones, and intellect.
People with a dominant Pitta nature are often focused, intelligent, confident, and driven. They tend to have strong digestion, sharp minds, and natural leadership qualities. When in balance, Pitta expresses itself as clarity, courage, motivation, and healthy ambition.
Physically, Pitta types usually have a medium, well-proportioned build with good muscle tone. Their skin is often warm, sensitive, or prone to redness, freckles, or irritation. Hair may be fine, light, or prone to thinning, and they often feel warm or overheat easily. Appetite is typically strong and regular.
The qualities of Pitta are hot, sharp, light, oily, and intense, which means it can become imbalanced through excess heat, overwork, competition, spicy foods, or emotional pressure. When out of balance, Pitta may manifest as irritability, anger, inflammation, acid reflux, skin rashes, or burnout.
Pitta is balanced through cooling, moderation, softness, and relaxation. Cooling foods, calming routines, time in nature, emotional spaciousness, and practices that cultivate compassion and ease help soothe Pitta and restore a sense of inner balance and harmony.
Kapha Dosha
Kapha is one of the three primary doshas in Ayurveda and is composed of the elements earth and water. It is the energy of structure and stability, governing strength, immunity, lubrication, growth, and emotional grounding.
People with a dominant Kapha nature are often calm, nurturing, patient, and compassionate. They tend to be steady, loyal, and emotionally resilient, with a natural ability to support and care for others. When in balance, Kapha expresses itself as endurance, contentment, love, and inner calm.
Physically, Kapha types usually have a strong, solid, or fuller build, with good stamina and physical strength. Their skin is often smooth, soft, and well-hydrated, and hair tends to be thick, shiny, and abundant. Digestion is slower but steady, and energy levels are consistent, though they may feel heavy if overstimulated or inactive.
The qualities of Kapha are heavy, slow, cool, oily, smooth, and stable, which means it can become imbalanced through inactivity, excess sleep, overeating, or emotional attachment. When out of balance, Kapha may manifest as lethargy, weight gain, congestion, fluid retention, sadness, or resistance to change.
Kapha is balanced through movement, lightness, stimulation, and warmth. Energizing foods, regular exercise, variety, and practices that encourage motivation and clarity help awaken Kapha and restore a sense of vitality, openness, and forward movement.
